Idiom

A set expression of two or more words that means something other than the literal meanings of its individual words.


Imperative sentence

It's a sentence that gives advice or instructions or that expresses a request or a command.


Independent clause

A group of words made up of a subject and a predicate. It can stand alone as a sentence. Also known as a main clause.


Indirect object

It's a noun or pronoun that indicates to whom or for whom the action of a verb in a sentence is performed.


Infinitive

A 'verbal' usually preceded by the particle 'to' that can function as a noun, an adjective, or an adverb.


Interjection

It's a word or phrase showing emotion or surprise which has no grammatical relationship to any other words or part of a sentenceThey are often punctuated by exclamation points.


Interrogative sentence

A sentence that asks a question.
