Idiom

A set expression of two or more words that means something other than the literal meanings of its individual words.


Imperative sentence

It's a sentence that gives advice or instructions or that expresses a request or a command.


Independent clause

A group of words made up of a subject and a predicate. It can stand alone as a sentence. Also known as a main clause.


Indirect object

It's a noun or pronoun that indicates to whom or for whom the action of a verb in a sentence is performed.


Infinitive

A 'verbal' usually preceded by the particle 'to' that can function as a noun, an adjective, or an adverb.


Interactive

This term is commonly used in the context of technology, media, and communication, where interactive systems allow users to actively engage with and manipulate content. For example, interactive websites, games, or educational software enable users to make choices, provide input, and receive responses in real-time.


Interjection

It's a word or phrase showing emotion or surprise which has no grammatical relationship to any other words or part of a sentenceThey are often punctuated by exclamation points.


Interrogative sentence

A sentence that asks a question.


Intonation

The way in which your voice rises or falls when you speak.
